Those weird sideburns are very common for monkey characters in manga. They're basically always associated with them. The ears and eyes are weird, but Oz's ears don't look like mouse's either. Then again, she is looking at a a butterfly on the last page, so maybe that's her actual animal. It would fit her dark skin, frilly, flowy clothes, the flower in her hair and her hairstyle.

Hona's background is reminiscent of the way you see mountains drawn in old Chinese art, so I'd guess he's either a monkey or some other Chinese animal.

This manga is at most like 120, maybe 150 chapters right? Doesn't seem like the story is going to get drawn out by how fast we're going through each friend. Unless meeting all the friends is just part 1.

Reading manga by female authors has taught me to be on guard against friendly and cheerful male characters, they're all too often dangerous psychos underneath. Reserved ancient lolis have less warning flags attached to them as a trope. At least they seem better socialized than Flute. My first gut feeling was that Hona's story is a lie and they're in cahoots with Alfur.
