I genuinely doubt that. Some anime stuff are ubiquitous enough that you'll see them in everyday life. You're not escaping the mainstream, whether you like it or not.

My friend's 3rd anime was Made in Abyss. He had only watched Cowboy Bebop on his own. I binged the first season of One Punch Man with him and then he said we should watch whatever my favorite anime was so we binged the first season of that and movie later that day.

No but he's not the kind of guy to get emotional like that. He really liked it though, I showed him season 2 when it came out and he occasionally asks when season 3 will be coming out.

I got my extremely basic MHA and demon slayer friend into it and he enjoyed it a lot. My pretentious VN friend dropped it halfway because he was scarred of what other people would think of him
