I think the series is a real bait and switch since it does very little with the premise it's selling itself as.
There's a real lack of family in a series called Spy x Family.
The author would rather shit out a generic and poorly written school romcom that amounts to nothing important since you can essentially stop reading those chapters and then jump back in to the latest one without needing to understand any dynamic changes or worry about what was missed.

If it wasn't for the fanbase wanting to see the adults get together and the family get their happy ending this series would have been cancelled long ago. The initial premise is what is basically carrying it.

Just a silly sitcom that got attention because there is no silly family friendly sitcoms anymore

The anime & movies are pretty good. It's a blend of various tropes and concepts, and the fact Anya knows everything makes it pretty comical lots of times.

If you want it to be a romcom, it utterly fails to deliver on the rom part. The one or two rom bits get degraded to comedy bits.

It's also a VERY slow burn on the main plot.

Fun series but the plot is moving too slow for me.
The premise of the story is good but it focuses too much on being the episodic family SOL comedy of the week.

I like it. But I think if you put it into some bucket other than "light family comedy" you'll get annoyed at how slow the plot seems to move.

It started interesting but there's a lot of slice of life stuff, also we should abandon Anya.

The dub is good. Manga is better paced from what I've read. The inner monologue between characters just works better when it's implied to happen as they're talking, rather than the anime having drawn out pauses where they stare at each other for a long time while the monologues play out. It's just really distracting once you notice it. I prefer scenes with Loid and Anya. I don't like Yor much.

The plot is interesting, but because it's a romcom it doesn't go anywhere. I would probably hate this series if I read the manga consistently.

The anime is comfy kino. The manga drags a bit, but I still enjoy it.
