0/10. There has NEVER been a SINGLE named character in this manga who has been killed except demons. Not only will Serie not die, I bet none of the named shadow warriors will die, either. This is a 0 stakes manga.

Now WHAT narrative purpose Serie possible serves I don’t know. I suspect she’s being set up as the next Demon King. If the writer was more talented she’d be the King of the manga — just imagine King except the reader never gets to see his perspective, that’s what Serie feels like. All talk, all suggestion, all legend, no action.

That character existed for the sole purpose of introducing ubel’s personal traits. Also, that death was in the past and they only referred to it. During the course of the story, there is yet to be a case of a named human character killing another named human character

It established one thing though. The author's not unwilling to show non-evil human characters getting killed. Considering that unlike most other human characters, the assassins were introduced as amoral antagonists, I'd take anon's bet and wager at least some of them will die. Especially if it's someone like the priest guy who even the assassins hate because he raised them as child soldiers and sees them as nothing but tools.

Nothing can actually happen with any weight because we need to get back on the road after this.

Frieren has the same problem as stuff like One Punch Man, when a writer makes a character too overpowered or too competent they often have no fucking idea of what to do with them or what where the initial premise/story could even go (thus betraying it) so they just start doing random stories that focus on whatever character they introduced and the title character barely shows up at all if that, you can often go entire story arcs in the manga without the title character doing anything or not showing up for many chapters just because the writer shoot it's own food with how powerful they made them, I think the only series to have a overpowered and overcompetent character while never taking focus away from the title/main character would be Eat-man, despite him killing every villain with a single attack they never once take the focus or screentime away from him, he shows up on every single episode and manga chapter unlike Saitama or Frieren, not saying that series is better but it did handle this issue way better
other thing that bothers me is something that I didn't notice that much until one anon pointed it out, most characters barely emote with their face and only make this expression -_- ,it is particularly noticeable in anime where the VAs for the main characters emote a lot on their delivery but the character in question still looks like -_- , the minor characters and villains who do emote end up feeling weird as a result since they have the usual anime expressions the main cast lacks and often their VA delivery doesn't emote as much as their face do unlike the leads who do use a wide vocal range, still those don't help as the minor characters usually fuck off forever and Frieren kills the few antagonists who emote (or tells them to kill themselves), even in the manga once they take the focus away from Frieren and the rest all the characters who basically became the main characters for a story arc and take all the focus still only make this face -_-

My question is, what's the point of killing her off? Will the emotional catharsis be that strong? I feel like the Empire characters are nobodies, all of them. It would make them more threatening, but do they even need to be that threatening?

Only no-name humans have been killed. Named characters are never killed unless they’re demons. The mangaka is SO against showing dead humans he made Aura’s puppets to be empty armor suites because even the APPEARANCE of humans being abused and hurt is too much. Aura’s magic controls minds, it doesn’t control pieces of metal, but the mangaka is so low stakes they couldn’t even show that much. And you want Serie to be killed? Won’t happen.

That will be reversed in both cases and contrasted with the assassins, who will lose their whole organization, life purpose, and family because of their actions.

I don't see how warriors don't get no-diffed if either spell gets cast, especially in a venue where the floor is either stone or otherwise smooth wood. They literally cannot move fast without slipping or getting stuck/faceplanting in mud.

If Serie dies, it's because the author is a literal idiot that doesn't know how to write a powerful know-it-all character.
