In the Manga, Clen was told about humans by another being that looks like it raised/educated him. Taking that in consideration and the books forge being an sentient entity among other four of its kind, my guess would be that a powerfull being existed before demon beats and was spread in the land to balance the power of species on a stalemate, but it's being disrupted by magic users (that the beasts know nothing about)

It’s really put me off that Alicia went from “my life dream is to kill Clevatess and explore the world” to “clevatess is my master I must be a good slave”. To an extent her klutziness is cute but it’s just so much more of a bland writing feel than if she was written to not immediately give up on resisting. At least I’ve got Ragna crimson pumping out chapters to satiate my human spirit wank.
