Imo, Japan's pretty exhausted on a civilisational level. Heisei anime ('89-'18,) it was like,

"What if friendship overcomes everything!?" They still had some hope that maybe they could push out of the Lost Decades and make a great society. Through like, hard work and friendship.

Now, in Reiwa Era (2019-now,) that clearly hasn't worked. Japan, and the world, are both stuck in overwork and Scrooge-style renting. Tech has kinda stagnated too, whereas Heisei tech was vibrant. (think how much games improved graphically from 2000-2015 or so)

So, the society's pretty aimless, getting poorer, and that is reflected in aimless, repetitive anime and cynicism. (Think Chainsaw Man, Oshi no Ko, new Pokémon games being a buggy mess, etc.)

So, in conclusion - - civilisational exhaustion.

What do you mean now? Judging by your picture, do you mean shonenshit? Because shonenshit wasn't good in your day, Naruto is badly written, period, and One Piece us rough until Drum Island and I'm more talking about the manga here because their adaptations are ass, literally half of Naruto is filler and it's probably worse for Shippuden when the pacing got fucked beyond a point if redemption and at this point more than half of One Piece is unwatchable and that's why diehard fans say, yet these turds still rank well in aggregate sites, I get why you would rate their manga high even if they don't deserve it but the adaptations are ass with garbage animation 80% of the time. Yeah, I like YYH but everyone knows he dropped the ball with the ending of Chapter Black and there's a lot of disappointment in the final arc too from people. Shonenshit is better nowadays both in writing and in animation.

The anime is trash. TRASH. It's been unwatchable since like ep 400. It had high highs but it's also got very low lows especially since the timeskip. I get that you still want to throat Oda but do it for the manga, the anime has shit animation and shit pacing.
