Why make such a good first season if you're gonna fuck up the quality of the animation in the later seasons?

I gotta wonder, how long can companies milk the goodwill earned by season 1? The manga volume sales have already fallen back to pre-S1 levels and look like they will sink even lower, S2 was a major disappointment and the remaining fans are cautious rather than optimistic about S3.

because as much as some on /a/ will say madhouse has fallen, they still bestow their blessing on adaptations and forever boost it to the stratosphere. even one of their worst, mahouka, was an amazing adaptation that went to shit in the subsequent seasons.

From what I remember, a bunch of talented independent animators decided to get together for OPM for no particular reason. They just wanted to put all their effort into one project just for fun and OPM was the perfect light-hearted not controversial adaptation to do it on.
