Yes, and they just dealt with a few hundred giant ant-like monsters as well as two copies of Number 9 at the strength he was at last season. At the beginning of this, they even killed a knockoff Godzilla. We're also coming closer to a new set of unreasonably OP monsters. The only thing different from other kaiju-themed things is that the most important kaiju are (mostly) human sized.

This show became dogshit so fast.

Reading the manga now, and I have to say... I understand the complaints about the anime adaption models being kinda iffy. I didn't think so before reading the manga, but honestly... the art for the manga is beautiful. I just wish that Matsumoto slowed down a bit and did more character development and slice-of-shenanigans between the big action scenes. It would have given them more impact. I think that if he had taken that time, Kaiju 8 could have been one of the all-time greats.

But maybe I'm biased because I have been hit with a sledgehammer of affection for Hoshina. By my personal metrics, hands-down one of the best men in fiction I've seen. I'm utterly in love. He's honestly just the best.

It was a bit retarded.
The director already knew the kaiju was after his weapon.
So why did he decide to fight it all out offensively like a retard? He could have stalled and ran around fighting defensively until Narumi and Kafka got there, the area was already evacuated anyway.
Of course the answer is because the plot demanded it, but it is still stupid.
