Brotherhood technically is the original. Fullmetal Alchemist's 2003 adaptation began before the manga concluded, so about 60% of the story had to be made up for it. It also changes a couple plot points and details in the early story that gives it a more grim feeling, like making the protagonists experience traumatic events at a younger age than they originally did. Brotherhood is the adaptation that actually follows the manga from beginning to end, with the usual slight alterations and chapter cuts and what nots.
