Has anime tracking negatively affected anyone elses enjoyment of anime? Now I'm constantly thinking about what rating I'll give something while watching it.

I only rate them once in a blue moon and I certainly haven't noted every single anime I've watched

Back when I was a newfag I looked up the MAL scores of various anime, saw that the scores didn't match the quality of the shows at all, and I haven't paid attention to scores since then.
And obviously no one that posts on /a/ has an account on that website, otherwise you'd be posting there instead of here.

Rating is something you do after you've finished (or dropped) the series. No point being premature when you don't know how badly they're going to fuck up the landing.

If it’s shit, I drop it.
If it’s bad, it’s a 4.
If it’s okay, it’s a 5.
If it’s okay but has some good parts, it’s a 6.
If it’s good, it’s a 7.
If it’s good with some great parts, it’s an 8.
If it’s great, it’s a 9.
A 10 is reserved only for 9s that manage to stick with me over the years.

where the fuck have you been? seasonal threads are basically dead aside from the 2-3 ultra-popular seasonal anime (usually shosunenslop)

I'm not an anime reviewer, I don't care about giving shit ratings. I use Taiga connected to a MAL account to keep track of what I am watching and AniAdd with an AniDB account to keep track of what I have downloaded, so I don't interact with the websites themselves too much anyways since it's all automated.

The ecchi and toku generals there feel like 00s 4chan, like extremely early 4chan with people being far more thoughtful in their posting and not shitting out shitpost one liners.

I mainly use mal so when the content starvation hits I wouldn't pick up the same haremtrash for the fifth time, only to drop it in the first 30 seconds and forget about it immediately again. I don't even rate them, it just helps to see the "drop" sign directly on the list when browsing.

By default you should ignore anybody rating things, the sole action of rating invalidates any opinion you might have, that's the good thing about 4chan, you talk about X, call it good or shit, but you don't make a ranking about it unless you are a faggot.

I rate what I watch only so I don't forget that I watched something forgettable. Otherwise, I wouldn't care. There's a ton of shit that I loved that would get 5's or 6s, and shit that I hated that are in the high 8's. Though it can be fun if I meet someone in person and we start talking about anime. They can see my weird taste and spark some deeper conversations.

OP here. It's more like some autistic obsession to me. I don't indulge in the social aspect of it. The satisfaction of seeing the number of anime completed and comparing them all becomes greater than actually watching.

I rate a show when I add it after watching the first episode, then update the rating when I set it to complete. It's interesting to see the difference between my first impression and my actual enjoyment of the show.

My only use for MAL is cataloging the anime I’ve watched or want to see in the future. In addition to that I also have my own separate cataloging where I split anime by whether I watch each episode as a premier each week or whether I binge it all at once. Normally I categorize watching coinciding premiers of anime each week as a “bloc” which is dependent on 2 or more anime I’m watching premier each week.
