The entire point is that Haruhi's strangeness isn't supposed to be taken at face value but more on a self actualization perspective. She's doing weird shit. Most people would have issues going along with it. Especially someone like Kyon who has his own issues.

Even then, at the end of the day, Kyon is a bigger supernaturalfag than Haruhi. Shown in later LNs
