Which is one of the reasons the film was hated by fans. It was absurd to think a girl can grow six inches in the last two years of high school.
The movie has been discarded from the story by the way. Afro had little to do with it and is ignoring everything about it, starting with introducing the underclassmen.
Oddly enough, by having Rin cut her hair the Yamaha trike advertisement special chapter IS apparently now part of the story, but nothing from the movie. Not a big sign of approval for how it turned out by Afro.

I didn't mind the characters being taller, I did dislike Nadeshiko and Rin cutting their hair short which is also another way of showing a character getting older. I'm not surprised Afro is staying well away from the film so he can do his own thing, its why I guessed the film was set years into the future so it doesn't clash with later developments in the manga.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean by this. It makes perfect sense in terms of realism. Most girls don't even grow a centimeter after entering high school. Character growth doesn't have to be tied to physical growth, you know.

I went through the movie a bit, and Nadeshiko didn't seem to be shorter than the group of high school girls who visited the store, so I guess the movie staff made the girls, especially Nadeshiko and Rin, grow a bit to not look like absolute midgets. Meh.
