Here is the thing about cultural industries... art is cultural expression and communication through skill and it takes a life to refine and master. Furthermore it doesn´t pay all that well unless the artist has a big break.
Why do artist do it then? Because they enjoy the process, you know, actually making the stuff. They don´t want an AI to "do it for them" and most won´t settle for a result that´s not what they wanted to make. Clients might but artist themselves won´t. It´s about passion. They are on it to earn a living by making something they are passionate about.
Why am i saying this? Well, because if they are not going to be doing what they want to do many may as well dedicate their time to other pursuits. Easier stuff. Those that remain may just half ass whatever with it while they use the time on personal projects.
Obviously this is not what suits want, suits want AI to improve productivity and help them produce 10 anime shows in the same time they now produce one. That´s not happening. Artists are just not on board with AI that way. Some may accept it for technical or repetitive stuff they usually delegate on their assistants anyways.
Here is the thing though, any skill not practiced will get rusty and eliminating the assistants may result in less skilled professionals in the long run. Not to mention artists may decide to compete against AI being used for image generation by putting their own studios and using AI for the commercial aspects of the business like marketing, accounting and the like so you know, it´s not only the artists who can be replaced. Greedy suits should think about that.
