Because he had a winning formula and decided to take generous liberties to the story, only to find, he's only good for art. He should just adapt the story as is instead of trying to improve it.

I can already see it. Right when Drive Knight engages Saitama mode, Blast recognises what happened with Garou mimicking him, and warps them to the Blastvenger secret base in the Andromeda galaxy. The battle then escalates to destroying multiple solar systems, until Drive Knight develops his own sentience and uses mode Blast to warp them both back to earth to take on KuseGod
Oh and because the ONE has now revealed that Kuseno is the mastermind behind everything, Murata will of course not wait for the story to advance to where revealing it makes sense, and will instead add blatant "foreshadowing" the moment he next shows up.

It's kind of funny and sad that once drive knight gains free will he forfeits it to try and kill/harm Saitama

I mean, I like Murata, E21 is one of my favorite mangas, but that is just completely false. Surely you jest or are baiting. Every story by One has become a hit and everyone and their mother has been copying Saitama for a decade. And he built himself a following with fucking scribbles (good scribbles tho, everyone thought he was Togashi even)

I just want to go back to saitama and genos chilling and doing stupid stuff. This is getting too serious for my taste.
