Oh being a kid, I was actually surprised when I noticed people saw it as hot, I was like "but why? Those are just leotards not panties!". Its a good anime though, the art, music, etc... made it a fun watch.

From what I gathered there is the original series that’s like 200 episodes long for some reason and isn’t that faithful to the manga and then there is Crystal a remake that’s much shorter and more faithful to the manga.
I’m guessing elitists would tell you to watch the og but I don’t know which one is best. 200 episodes is a lot I’ve never watched anything that long. I probably don’t even have enough drive space left for it.

Watch the first three seasons of the original anime while using an essential episode list to skip filler (season 3 of Crystal is fine too for a more abbreviated experience, but S is the peak of the original anime), then watch the Sailor Moon Eternal movies instead of SuperS since the SuperS season doesn't just add filler but even removes the entire plot. Finally, watch Stars with the filler removed if you want, then the Cosmos movies for the parts the anime never got to.

Literally over half of it is formulaic monster of the week filler full of repeated stock footage, so not really. There are good additions in there too, though, so the winning move is to skip episodes that don't develop the plot in any meaningful way.

That was my impulse, that if I want to have "watched Sailor Moon" I should go with the original.

The old anime improves on the manga a lot. Crystal is more faithful to that inferior manga, as well as very poorly made.
The live action PGSM was actually pretty good. It's an interesting take on the story that's worth watching if you don't mind the low budget toku jank and acting, but it's not any sort of definitive experience.
