Very rare. If there's no watering down chances are it'll be made by some wannabe auteur that thinks he knows better than what he's adapting and you'll get changes because of that. Anime adaptations are very rarely good as replacements for reading the original source.

Made in Abyss doesn't water things too much beyond just purely practical limits of how much detail you can pull off with an animation budget.
