One piece, Boruto, and Dragon Ball Super were some of the last manga based anime to air year round. Shueisha pretty much went full seasonal for all the new manga works due to demands of not only fans but the overwhelming demand for "quality" animation. The model for anime original advertising however is still all over the place. there's still quite a few year round and half year shows instead of 12 episodes for quite a few toys and videogames.

For something to be hugely successful it needs to have a setting and set-up so readers want to live in that world and can easily imagine themselves as partaking in the activities depicted in the manga.

With Naruto everyone wanted to be in shinobi school and invent their own signature style/move or at least emulate one that is shown. As the story moved away from the school it lost a lot of that initial interest with a wider audience.

Bleach same thing, being some trainee shinigami and defeating hollow baddies is easy. Also memorizing all the moves, captains and their underlings and the SS decorum. It also helped that it was set (initially) in a regular japanese neighborhood.

One Piece is a bit trickier but the initial interest is in how goofy and silly it was, similar to early DB. But even then imagining fruit powers and sailing around and getting a crew going has broad appeal.

A lot of the new series miss this simple "I want to live in this setting" approach and make the setting/plot too convoluted or "busy" or it's just not outright appealing.
Seven Deadly Sins was a good contender, but it just went into powerlevel blowups way too fast and didn't let the setting breather. It just seems too arbitrary.

AoT, TG, DS and JJK are good examples of successful franchises in this vein. Easy to insert into the setting, a lot of characters and their relationships juggled so the lore of who's who and who's scheming against whom is rewarding etc...

I don't know why WSJ keeps missing the mark lately. Should be easy to cook up some proper franchises

It's real difficult to figure out what the various series would need to not feel like they fell off without creating new issues.
Like Naruto ended part 1 decently (sakura still going after Sasuke was pretty shit though) then part 2 started decently but jesus christ did it end poorly.

Bleach.... is kinda just a mess desu first arc was pretty good but hueco mundo was visually amazing but story wise.... there wasn't much going for it once they actually got into hueco mundo, the shinigami in the world of the living parts was fun though. 3rd arc was dog shit and the 4th arc was convoluted dog shit.

One Piece was amazing up until the flashback arc post-whitebeard war. At that point the crew has been apart from each other about as long as they were actually crew together and we've just got to assume they haven't changed much, then we get into a series of pretty meh arcs and i'm fairly sure the crew has been seperated for more time than they've been together since then. Jimbei also feels incredibly tacked on as far as crew mates goes.

I think Fujimoto was a poison pill for Shounen. Not that I hate Chainsawman but his series set the tone for the rest of the manga Shuenshia puts.

Despite how dire some of the moments of the big 3 were you had a feeling of joy and wanted the protagonist to win and save the world in some way or another. Not with Fujimoto, Gege, Yusei, or Tekeru. There is this backdrop of misery and moral relativity where no life matters other than the honor or self. Not saying some of it is not poignant or at times deep, but it's not marketable, fun, or aspiring. People may relate to denji or yuuji but nobody wants to be them.

In particular SHONEN Jump more than ever seems like a shoujo, lite sinen magazine not about action or fun. Even that new fucking manga that just came out "Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits" fuck man there is no panel without dialogue, those fuckers just don't shut the fuck up about millennial tier quips. No real action shots, little to none full body shots so you don't even appreciate the magical girl fit, and a convoluted power.

The fact they completely Mismanaged One Punch man Means the suits are retarded as ever and the bidding war for One's VERSUS is gonna be insane.
