I think this was a result of the inverse of what anon said here
>>283720298 when people did start to read his story him and his editor decided to change his plans around. Nanachi and Bondrewd were apparently supposed to kill eachother during the confrontation at the Idofront but Nanachi saved the manga so he kept her alive. The conflict at the Idofront was also drawn out and a lot more focus was placed on Bondrewd who became another fan favorite. So going into the village arc with no plan for what to do with Nanachi from then on he immediately circles back to Mitty presumably. But who knows, maybe Mitty was part of the plan all along, just without Nanachi being there.
It would be fascinating to see how MiA would have turned out in a vacuum, but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective) its been subject to all sports of pushing and pulling from the IRL circumstances surrounding as a commercial product and Tsukushi's sole livelihood.
