It can still be interesting to read but the characters need to be interesting themselves so just seeing them going on about their day is entertaining enough without a “plot”. And the formula itself shouldn’t be so rigid and stale. And both of those things are a problem for Ruri right now. None of the characters have a distinct personality, everyone is only mildly interested in the whole dragon aspect, and the formula of giving Ruri a new power issue and then immediately solving it prevents anything else from happening. Because “oh no this new power is a big issue!” overtakes everything else, but no one cares that much and then it gets easily solved. Once is fine but this has happened like three times now and the only thing of note to happen is mild bit of lore of “Dragons used to want to destroy humanity but now they’re chill” and “maybe one day Ruri will meet her dad”, both of which causes the characters to, as always, have no reaction. Usually when you’re this many chapters deep you already have a decent sized cast of characters and maybe a sub plot of romance or something, but Ruri, the teacher, and her mom are the only notable characters, and none of them are distinct. Absolute shame cause I can enjoy “nothing happens” series like Smoking behind the convenience store, Genshiken, or another monster girl series that blows this shit out the water, Tsumiki Ogami’s not so ordinary life, but Ruri just has nothing going for it besides how cute Ruri is herself.

With Ruri, I got fed up with the characters acting unnaturally nice and understanding. They all came across as apathetic, and any potential conflict was sanded down into something more generic. The two most recent giga hits (Kimetsu and Jujutsu) actually took a while ramping up. With Jujutsu even Gege himself has talked about how chapter 8 saved the manga, and Kimetsu was 10k tier until the Mount Natagumo arc (and even then it didn't really explode until the anime).

I feel like most people are too afraid to admit that the manga they liked feel off. And most long-running manga falls off.
