Retail advice for someone with severe social anxiety and OCD?
I’m starting my first retail job tomorrow after being a NEET for 7 years (I’m 25 now). I’m very nervous because I’m introverted and have crippling anxiety and OCD. I keep overthinking everything and I’m terrified of messing up, especially with the till and giving the wrong change as well as not knowing how to interact with customers if they approach me for something. I lack at a lot of general life experience so even something as simple as mopping the floor fills me with anxiety.

I really need this job, not just for the money but for the experience and the chance to finally move forward. Please, anyone who was once in my position, give me some hope. I’m losing my fucking mind here.

The first time I ever had to help a customer at my very first job, according to my boss at the time, I turned pale.
Your first customer that you help is going to be the scariest one: If you power through it though, it immediately gets much easier.

Take a slow deep breath... observe that for a vile keep awareness about that, until you calm down.
Then you can pay attention to what is going on out side of you with out distraction, just easy focused and relaxed attention.

Imagine you observing flies fuck, is that cause you anxiety? Of cause not, sweeping floor is same like observing flies fuck.

Just keep awareness about own breathing, If you can tell any second, you inhale or exhale, that is good enough.

In any interaction with a customer THEY are going to be lost and turning to you for help. You are in the power position. The minute you realize that, they no longer can be scary.

I don't have any advice for you op, but I'm in the same boat as you and I'm rooting for you. Good luck :)
