highly depends on how much OP is willing to spend. places like that are akin to price gouging the same way old peoples homes are. we're talking anywhere from 8-12 thousand a month to live there. These places will tap your resources dry and drop you to 0 net worth, then the govt kicks in and pays for you until they drop you, and after that you get kicked out to a lower tier facility with the other low functioning nonverbal autists.
I am not an estate lawyer and this is not financial advice. the fact that you said you have a trust fund from your parents means they have at least some degree of wealth. I would talk to them today and get something set up. If you have a trusted sibling and/or family member you are extremely close with, consider getting an irrevocable trust set up. That way if sometime happens to your parents and you are moved to a facility, they cannot tap into your wealth since it is technically owned by the trust holder. You need to get this set up fairly soon since it will take several years for the trust to kick in. There are certain things that can't be added to the trust (SSI money for example), but stuff like inheritance can. Look into this, please.
The last thing you want to do is have all the inheritance being bled dry by the care facilities. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that these places are equivalent to giving Jeff Bezos all your money, allowing him to make a 1 room prison for you, give you 1 meal a day, and shooting you in the head while you sleep after a couple of years. They do not deserve your family's money. They pay their care workers minimum wage and keep all the money to themselves, your money. Fuck them.
The only way that things will change is if we look out and protect ourselves and our families. To you and anyone else who doesnt have a sort of trust set up, get it done ASAP. We dont need to directly contribute to giving these facility owners billions of dollars each year. They do not need it.
Good luck.
