why do i get increasing thoughts of wanting to move out while at work, but once i'm at home or it's the weekend or holidays then i mellow out about it?

You clearly value short term comfort over long term gain. Your priorities are fucked.

Because when you're away you see the promise of tomorrow. When you're stuck there you have nowhere to go and feel the loss of that freedom which gives you massive anxiety and your brain does a work around to alleviate that anxiety by justifying it in some way. It doesn't get rid of the want though because when you go back out you have that same drive to move on.

It means you are settling and not getting what you actually want

You know you should move out on your own. At work you remember all those things that you don't like about being where you are. You're active. You're making things happen, and you know it's best. But the millisecond you get even a modicum of rest, you get too comfortable. You'd rather be comfortable *now* and in the short term than put in the work and stay consistent with moving out because that takes more effort than "being comfortable".
