Exotic positions are the kind of thing that you think matter when your entire knowledge of sex comes from porn. In practice, the more common ones are common because they're extremely effective, and the rarer ones are hardly ever better (with the single exception of lateral, which is great, but takes practice).

If it's your first time, I suggest you don't try anything too weird. I would stick with cowgirl - that doesn't require you to do much other than lie back and enjoy it.
