I'm in my 40s. I am a NEET, and have been for longer than I care to say. I have no transportation, no job, no friends, and no real future. I'm shocked that I've lived as long as I have, really.

And I've been thinking for the past couple of hours about taking a gun - for the record, I don't have one - and blowing my brains out.

Give me a reason to keep living. Give me something other than "become an hero". I want to live, but I don't want to live like this any more.

Why not just be a transient? Buy a backpack and hit the road. Who knows, you might find yourself. And if you get stabbed, which is unlikely, you want to die anyways right? You can come up with all the excuses you want but it sounds like you've got literally nothing to lose. You probably have an inheritance of at least a couple hundred thousand coming down the line once your parents pass away, even if they're only middle class (the median net worth of 80 year olds is over 250k). So, wait until you're 50 and you inherit their house, car, left over savings, possessions, and if you're lucky maybe some life insurance money (even if it's just final expense/guaranteed issue it could be up to 40k). Then sell that house and all their stuff. At this point you might have 300k or more. That isn't much, but you could move to Vietnam, Thailand, or the Philippines and that money will last you a lot longer (like maybe that 300k could last you 8-10 years in the States, but over there maybe it could last you 16-20 years). Plus over there you could actually get a girlfriend because Asian women naturally value white men and will see your life savings as an amount she could build a life around. Not that you need to finance a third world gf, but it would certainly be an option. And ultimately, In the long run, when we're talking about what the world might be like in 2045 and beyond, it is very likely that by then we will have abundant extremely capable AI and robots, so even if you're running out of money by then, my guess is you'll be able to live off universal income and bang a loving robot gf while using generative AI to create all the movies, games and shows you've ever dreamed of. I've thought about suicide a lot, but it isn't worth it. If you actually watch footage of people successfully committing suicide, it looks terrible and it will always leave you feeling like that person made a mistake and it wasn't worth it. You want to kill yourself to feel relief from your worries, but the thing is that you have to be alive to feel relief.
