I’m genuinely curious as to why people can’t just get along despite our differences. I feel like there is so much unnecessary hate in this world and for no good reason. I need a scientific or philosophical explanation for this phenomenon. What do you got anons?

So the long story short is that neurons that fire together wire together and the more times a group of neurons fire the more efficient they become in performing that sequence. Remember the old adage from way when ago about not talking about religion and not talking about politics? Well that wisdom has that scientific basis behind it. If you press a hot button issue it immediately triggers a neuronal cascade that often times possesses and takes control of the individual to such a degree that they can't control themselves until the full cascade has passed, they've developed and refined the habit so damned well.

Worse? That cascade feels like shit, their mammalian and reptile brains pick up they were feelin' just fine until you showed up, and now you're associated with that shit feeling.

Ultimately what you have to understand is that people do things because of feelings. And they do things either to get more of a certain kind of feeling or they do things to feel less of a certain kind of feeling.

even if they did nothing

we bond by having enemies

someone questions your belief = brain thinks it’s a personal attack
you double down instead of admit you’re wrong
fight mode engaged

then social media happens
algorithms boost ragebait
you mostly see extreme takes and trolls
think the world is way more hostile than it actually is

divide & profit
media and politicians WANT people mad
angry people = clicks, votes, $$$
peace doesn’t sell

tl;dr:
we’re tribal, emotional, and manipulated by systems built to keep us pissed off
peace is the exception, not the rule

What the others are saying is true, but these days it mostly boils down to money. Conflict is artificially generated to make money selling... Everything actually. Would recommend reading Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" and, shit you not, Sin Tzu's "Art of War." The only exception is Islam, which is a religion designed from the ground up to give excuses to pillage and rape
