I know you've been told to feel a sense of false pride for being damaged, but you can turn to try to heal yourself, if you choose.
I think a lot of people enjoy the lack of responsibility and the extra layer of "understanding and forgiveness" that comes with the title though. So I understand you wanting to defend your position too.
