This is the Kola Borehole in Russia, the deepest we have ever went inside the earth. It is around 8 km deep, wich is nit much if you think about it

Why do you think we did not go deeper? What is down there?

Deeper you go the hotter it gets. At some point the rock you are drilling through starts to become soft and the drill head gets all gummed up. You also have to contend with 8km of torsional stress on the drill shaft itself. If the head gets stuck the shaft will twist itself like a candy cane and snap.

eventually you'll drill out to the other side of the earth
when you finally break through there's an entire universe to explore

I have this unsuspecting feeling that all the planets around us are full of a more intelligent life form that was smart enough to evolve into living inside their planets instead of on the surface with massive radiation and horrible weather destroying everything they make every 50 years. I believe they use geothermal power to power their crafts and machines maybe with batteries as they mine the planets from the inside out.

considering the size of some planets, this isn't entirely ludicrous
imagine the twist if it turns out that earth is the exception because we're the only planet (in the immediate galaxy at least) where life developed on the planet's exterior, and on other planets the most intelligent life forms never considered that there might be an entire universe below their feet

Hell. Literally. They stopped drilling when they hear the screams and wailing of the damned. Spooky stuff.

>Also, the Gates of Hell are located in Turkmenistan.

If I did the math correctly, then I would end up pretty far south in the pacific ocean. If I'm lucky and come up further west, I'd end up in New Zealand. So, yeah, quite a universe to explore. And practically for free.

>Why do you think we did not go deeper
Because it becomes exponentially more expensive and destroys drillbits easier the deeper you go. Theres nothing mysterious about it. It's just something that is not easy to do by any standard.
