>I dunno if Americans pay for their live TV broadcasts through some sort of taxThere are outlets like NPR and PBS that are tax funded, and you've probably seen them in the news lately with DOGE and all that, but all the Fox, CNN, MSNBC, local news channels, superbowl, olympics, and everything else are paid for by their own ads. I have an antenna and don't pay a dime for broadcast.
The US does have a TV tariff* though. Any panel that comes with a tuner is affected. That's why some companies have started selling large format "monitors" instead of TVs, because they avoid the tariffs, but you don't have a tuner if you want one.
*This tariff isn't new. It's one of the 36,000 US tariffs that have been around forever that people have just accepted and forgotten about, like the chicken tax.
