>"OMG WHY IS THIS HAPPENING, OUR KIDS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE AT SCHOOL!!"

Why do you think a school means safety?
It's not a police station or a military base full of guards. The doors are wide open for anyone to go inside. Why would you even remotely think a school is a safe place?

It's supposed to be relatively safe. That's why you have security and teachers with guns

More people die from shit like bee stings than school shootings. The media sensationalizes them and creates copycats who want to die in infamy. They weren't a problem until the Columbine shooters became infamous. That is what created the modern epidemic of school shooters. It is entirely a social contagion and has nothing to do with the availability of guns.
In the 1930s before the National Firearms Act you could order a belt fed machine gun or a tommy gun submachinegun in the mail directly to your door with no background check or license.
>INB4 they were prohibitively expensive
The Uvalde school shooter worked at Taco Bell and had two high end AR-15s worth nearly $2K each before you consider accessories and optics. My point being any determined psycho in the 1930s could have bought a belt fed machine gun and shot up a public space if they wanted to.

Guns aren't the problem, mentally ill people and SSRI medications are the problem. Most school shooters are on SSRIs. The media won't touch that topic because pharmaceuticals are their top advertising clients. Think about it, almost every single commercial break on TV has an ad for an antidepressant.

why would you even expect this in a school, where you are not allowed to do anything out of norm without an alarm going off? you need special access to a private room to do anything remotely close to this

What's worse is it's getting harder and harder to distinguish it from kids killing kids.

Because it's a place we're kids go to learn. As such, there is an expectation of safety. Also no, not just anyone can walk into a school and take a look around. If you have no justified purpose being on the property, you'll be asked to leave. Refuse and you will be removed.

Have you ever been to a public school? They're like prisons with locked gates and limited points of entry.

If I homeschool my kids, do I have to get rid of my guns to protect them?

>there is an expectation of safety
Where does this expectation come from? Does the government protect anyone from anything? Why would you expect a bunch of liberal dumbfuck teachers to protect someone else?

When I was a kid schools were totally unsecured. Now my kid's elementary school is locked down and you can't even step inside without being allowed in. All doors are locked from the outside and even different wings of the school have hallway doors that lock.

When I was a kid, we brought guns to school. We had pistols in our backpacks, you got older and had a gunrack in the back of your truck, never a problem. This was in California. We didn't have the influx of liberal busybodies and medicated millennials, either.

It pisses me off how locked up schools are now. It feels like you're not even supposed to see your own kid. There is a hard wall of separation between you and your children, and it's uncomfortable. Like you're just supposed to trust that diddler teacher, no choice, no references, nothing. I wouldn't do that with a babysitter.

Education standards are fucked and there's more worry about glad handing idpol bullshit rather than the fact -any- kids being marginalised or bullied is going to result in anti social resentment.
Guns aren't the issue primarily, how you treat each other and especially your kids are.
Notice how every other country that actually takes socio-economic stratification seriously has less trouble with shootings, even if weapons are available.

That being said, outliers happen too. You cannot account for every possible contingency, and knee-jerk totalitarian resolves only bandaid what is a systemic infection of how freely you dehumanise one another.

Start there, or at least stop acting surprised when the people treated like garbage snap and either harm themselves or others. But it's obvious you'd have less trouble if you actually strengthened community ties so you could help these people before they reached critical mass.
