why am I that much of a people pleaser? I value my friends and family more than I value myself. Why?
>>935977860 (OP)oh you're a people pleaser?
name 10 people who are pleased with you
At some point in your early childhood your parents "neglected" you. Maybe not intentionally, maybe not even for that long or that severely, but at some point, you needed your parents to pay attention to you - maybe you felt sick, hungry, or just lonely and afraid - and they weren't there, or rejected you in favor of work, or they were busy with household chores.
Because children are narcissists (it is a mark of maturity to be able to imagine others having a life outside of you) you internalized a belief that this was your fault, that you had done something distinctly wrong, and if you only adhered, superstitiously, religiously, ritualistically, to patterns of pleasing others then they would not neglect or abandon you. This is not true: people will often come and go regardless of your actions towards them, because other people have their own lives to lead.
You need to get over this and learn to take things for yourself, and understand that taking care of yourself is not the cause for other people to not have positive relationships with you.
