I hate living, but not because I think life is bad, but because I feel like I'm living inside a prison, both for the body and the mind. I have these fantasies of freedom and transcendence, but they'll never become true, not in my lifetime at least. So I'll rot in this useless form.

Why would consciousness choose living like this?

You got it. When you're time here is up, you are free. no need to hasten it though. Simply enjoy the journey, and try not to take life too seriously.

Some claim consciousness is the combination of matter and soul. If true, life is the only place consciousness exists. Maybe we are here so we can better appreciate the boundless wonder of what waits after death.
If you have everything, it might be fun to pretend to have nothing, even for a lifetime.
After all, what fun is a game without struggles and difficulties to overcome?
