And find out interesting things?

I never knew much about my family beyond my grandparents, so I did some research on ancestry and similar sites.

My paternal grandfathers side is the most interesting. The farthest back I can find is my great-great-great-great grandfather who was a Native American (before this, I had no idea I had native ancestry). He was born in Canada but immigrated to the United States to take advantage of some kind of land grant that was offered to Indians. Some businessman tried to jew him out of it, and he ended up writing a bunch of letters to government officials (including one to President Jackson) and eventually he was paid a fair price for the land. He later froze to death while hunting.

His son (my great-great-great grandfather) I can't find much on other than that he was once arrested for disrupting a religious service. His son (great-great grandfather) owned a saloon. His son, my great grandfather, married a woman from England and moved to Canada, where my grandfather, father, and me were all born,.

Unsurprisingly as families had lots of kids back then and my great-grandfather was the only one who moved to Canada, I have a lot of extended family scattered across the United States who I've never met or spoken to. One of them is a religious fanatic who is very active on Twitter, encourages the burning of abortion clinics, and has 14 kids.

Paternal grandmothers side I can't find much on, they were from Ireland.

On my mother's side pretty much all of them came from Scotland, specifically north Scotland where there is still a small village which has her family name. Some cousins on that side were trapeze artists in the 20s and 30s.

So /b/, have you ever found out anything interesting about your extended family?
