In terms of modern cheap cars, it’s one of the better options. But in its price range and class also sit the Kia Soul and Hyundai Elantra and I think both of them are better options, especially the Kia soul.
These are all boring ass sub 25k cars new, in terms of reliability they’re honestly about the same with the exception of the Nissans. The Jetta is the same damn car it’s always been, the Elantra is probably the most stylish, the Chevy trax is the most capable of the bunch, the soul is at its peak refinement after 3 generations.
The Corolla keeps trying to compete with the civic but the civic is a more expensive and just overall nicer car these days. In that endeavor the Corolla just feels like Toyota banking on their own name while not really offering anything new that stands out.
All the others have something going for them that makes them valuable over one another, the Corolla is the same as it’s always been but isn’t getting any cheaper and at its price point, there are simply better options depending on your needs.

Toyota is rolling the finest styling of 2015, the worlds least interesting finishes, and while that’s not a complete deal breaker if the car is sound, it shows a lack of commitment to its development.
This isn’t “why fix what isn’t broken”, it’s looking at something and not seeing a reason to improve it, you can always make something better or more unique or innovative. Toyota stopped caring, knowing that 50% of these are fleet sales and the other half are mostly people who don’t care because it’s the best thing they can get new with a 550 credit score, but won’t stoop so low as to buy a Sentra.

Hyundai saw the weak spot in the US market and really put a lot of effort into their low end cars. They have modern, aggressive styling that people really like. Their lineup looks like something more modern if not futuristic than it really is.
Kia did the same thing with their redesign of their logo and facelifts for all their cars as well as replacing their sedans with more modern looking designs like Hyundai did.
It shows they’re trying to make better products. They know their image is just tainted in general from the 2000’s of making poor quality cars that the American market doesn’t respect. It wasn’t until the Kia soul kinda took off that people saw Korean options as reputable.
And that puts them both in a strong place now, they’re both showing really good offerings at this entry level price point. Because if you leave a good impression with someone’s first new car, they’ll probably be back to buy a $70,000 SUV in 10 years.

GM with the trax, I mean shit these get even cheaper, these start at 20 grand, and when you’re looking at these types of cars 1-3k matters and this simply offers more car
It’s a boring as shit but the incredibly basic drivetrain made of GM leftovers leaves it simple and reliable, these don’t seem to have many problems at all, and just about anyone can work on them, there’s nothing special going on.
That sounds very GM, we’ll see how it rusts.
But for a new car buyer you look at this tiny suv thing you can put at least one San Antonio woman in, and compare it to the Corolla, you’re looking at two entirely different types of vehicle, except the trax can do both the fuel efficient commuter role, and the “fill the entire back with stupid shit from Walmart” role. While the Corolla can only do one of those.

This could have been a really interesting thread
