since i don't believe in YHWH, don't hold the Mosaic law or the Israelite/Jewish prophets in any particular esteem, and both Jesus and the people he was addressing have been dead for millennia, i don't need to respond at all

respond with the passages where god floods the world wiping out millions or nukes Sodom & Gomorrah because of their treatment of travellers. A bunch of dudes wanted to rape the angels visiting.
the other option is the passages where post nuking, Lot's daughters get him drunk and fuck him

i suppose it gains its weight in 'love the general plan'
about everything else Jesus said was on point other than slaves must obey masters, which was clearly an artifact of the time

Sounds fine. I see reason to challenge the second half if your neighbor happens to be trying to harm you, but, after that is done and over with, sure. Make peace and move on.
It's fine.

none of those verses should be in quotes, as they are all a misleading misrepresentation of what Jesus was purported to have said
of course, he didn't actually say any of that

Agreed. What do you think about the fact that Jesus never asked to be worshiped? How do you think Jesus would respond to his modern worshipers, and would he recognize his own message in their hearts and deeds?

this is a nice platitude, but it falls apart with the least examination without a ton of additional qualifications

i mean, that's the kind of thing i'd do, but i wouldn't claim a Messianic sanction for it

>What do you think about the fact that Jesus never asked to be worshiped?
That becomes difficult to say based on scripture. He made constant references to worshiping the one true God as primary, but while he was alive preaching it was unclear if that was the heritage Jewish God or Himself
This is where i do not have a religious upbringing so only guess based off of reading the Bible and cultural references

I think worshiping God is the way, in a sense of the phrasing, but I am unsure if he himself would be okay with being worshiped as a man. I really do not know, but it is a question I often ponder.
I know I would not enjoy it. Being an object of worship. I would resent it beyond death even.
I hope all turns out well in the end, and the absolute truth is denoted to all of us, somehow, by some means.

>What do you think about the fact that Jesus never asked to be worshiped?
nta, but i suspect a Christian would say that Jesus' humility in human form kept him from demanding worship, but that he clearly demonstrated his divine nature multiple times, and the default assumption is that the divine is to be worshipped

I would hate and resent being worshiped in any context. I just wonder if he would feel the same?
We may know, one day.
>he default assumption is that the divine is to be worshipped
Worshiping the flesh seems evil to me. Drinking his figurative blood and eating of his figurative flesh while parading around an image of him being tortured seems wrong to me, as though it is mockery.
I will never shake that feeling. I cannot condone it. It is evil in my eyes. God help us all.

I see many reasons to mistrust so many points made in scripture. it's ridiculous.

>I would hate and resent being worshiped in any context.
that's probably a healthy sentiment, as you're not god
as far as i know
>I just wonder if he would feel the same?
in the context of the Christian scriptures and their traditional interpretation, it's only proper to worship ol' JC and for him to accept that worship
as for me, i don't think Jesus said or did much (if anything at all) of the things that were attributed to him in the New Testament, and i don't think we can really know what he would have thought about any particular issue
maybe he would have been horrified by the idea, or maybe he was a delusional David Koresh type
>Drinking his figurative blood and eating of his figurative flesh while parading around an image of him being tortured seems wrong to me, as though it is mockery.
it wasn't intended by Christians as mockery, but as a reminder that Christians are called to "crucify the flesh," and of Jesus' final sacrifice that ended the temple sacrifices for all time
pretty much everything Christians are supposed to do is in imitation of what Jesus supposedly did, like getting baptized, feeding the poor, etc.
in reality, of course, very few Christians actually take the idea of behaving in a Christ-like fashion seriously

>a healthy sentiment
I believe you may have missed the point of what was stated, but regardless, Jesus never asked to be worshiped, and so I wonder...
>in the context of the Christian scriptures
>scriptures
Written by man. If you trust the hand of man, fine, but I stand with God no matter what man tries to say for or against the idea.
>maybe he would have been horrified by the idea, or maybe
It's easy to try to gauge a person by the stories others tell about him, but it's impossible to know the Man Himself.
>it wasn't intended by Christians as mockery
It reads as mockery and something more wicked, to eat a man's flesh, and drink of his blood in mock cannibal rituals. I will never stand for it. Your choice and the decisions of others are your own to play out. We are all free to choose.
>what Jesus supposedly did what Jesus supposedly did
That's part of the problem. We just don't know enough of the details, but I am all for charity and cleanthyness.
>in reality, of course, very few Christians actually take the idea of behaving in a Christ-like fashion seriously
It's a shame, isn't it? Oh well.

to you, perhaps, but not to most people, including nearly all Christians
>to eat a man's flesh, and drink of his blood in mock cannibal rituals.
not a man's flesh, a god's flesh
in the context of the Hellenized Mediterranean of Jesus' day, partaking of a ritual meal involving symbolically consuming a god was not unusual
Dionysus and several mystery religions in the Greco-Roman world had similar practices
>I will never stand for it.

We all see it differently. I am well aware.
>eating God's flesh
Jesus was a man, but what you say makes it even worse in my eyes at least. Mightiest of blasphemies if there ever was one. Disgusting to the highest degree.
>Dionysus and several mystery religions in the Greco-Roman world had similar practices
Sure, but does that make it any better? As you and I stated, we all perceive things differently, but to me, I see this as something equal to spitting in the face of God.
>perhaps 2 billion Christians will be terribly affected by what you will or won't stand for
That's not the point i meant to make. Their choices are their own, for better or worse.
I hope you have a wonderful life, but Christianity just isn't for me. I have faith in God, in source, but I cannot bring myself to take part in this religion, or any religion.
I believe the path to God or divinity is something which is meant to be a personal journey or experience. I do not mind looking through the many lenses others offer, but it is not for me to walk any other path but my own.
Best of Luck to you on your own journey. I hope you find your own way in life, and beyond. Peace be with you, and source/God guide you.
