This nostalgia thread is made in commemoration of decades of chronic computer use.
A company as big as Windows doesn't need to cut support for an older operating system except for one reason: manufactured consumption. I held out for this long against my own judgement, but in October I must finally say goodbye to the operating system I used out of sheer convenience for over 30 years. Never before has a new version of Windows required that I upgrade my machine too, and I can only guess at what horrible ulterior reasons there must be to force a hardware change.
I am lucky in that I've had enough experience with alternative operating systems working in IT that switching won't be difficult, but how many people are stuck with microsoft's decision to extract their money while subjecting them to yet more spyware and ai-conditioning? Too many.
