I cleaned all the black mold from the fan using wire brushes and a solution of water and bleach. Then I sprayed everything with a mold preventer.
However, there is still some mold deep down there (picrel) I can't really get to it, but probably 99% of the mold has been cleaned out (it was mostly on the fan blades)
Anyways, there is no longer any musty smell coming from it, and my eyes don't water when it's running, so I'm not worried about that small amount of mold.
I'm in New Hampshire so it doesn't get *that* hot so I don't need to run it that much anyway.

I don't think so, the unit seems to drain water re perfectly well.
I think maybe it was because it rained out and then I didn't use it for weeks because it wasn't that hot. That was last year. I've read that you should turn the fan on every once in a while to clear things out.

High strength hydrogen peroxide will deactivate mold as good if not better than bleach.
Unknown if it will react with the Styrofoam or plastic tho. Powerful stuff, wear PPE when applying it, and get its own spray bottle for it.
Good for metals and wood.
