Today's computers don't make noise. The old ones did.

(I mean even ancient Egyptians said this, but this time it's for reals.)

I dislike circuits "singing" these days and it's harder for me to go back to the old mechanical noises now because of it. Their circuit singing had more tolerable pitch compared the stuff micro resistors/capacitors emit these days.
Beeps and Boops forever though

I don't, loud ticking HDDs, slow seeking CDROM drives, and noisy fans are all annoying
I much prefer the better fans we have and silent solid state storage

Same. I also miss when the expectation wasn't that every operation happen in an instant.
I have some favorite memories of being inside on cold days, loading a floppy into my PC and listening to it whir as I happily enjoyed the anticipation while waiting. Same with the modem.
Now it's...move mouse to bring up screen, go to download something, be pissed when it isn't instantaneous, be pissed when a web page doesn't load immediately, et cetera.

Only Memphis was hetero.
Y2K and Fruity Tiger were the same shit with minor tweaks, and they led into flat design.
Everything after Memphis has been done to dumb down society and defeat society, make it depressed, make it feel defeated. This is by (((their))) design.

Let me show you this new game I just downloaded off the Grimoire of Warez BBS! I backed it up on this Zip disk. Here let me just pop that in.

Okay it should be loading in a few minutes.

Huh. I wonder why it's taking so long?

It sure is clicking a lot.

>I miss computer noises
I do not, at least not most of them - I had a 3GHz P4 back in the '00s, and that stuff ran hot - my machine sounded like a diesel engine. I dreamed about having silent watercooling, but back then it was not only labor intensive, but also very expensive.

And now, I'm running my desktop with the AMD stock cooler, and couldn't be happier, don't hear anything, even though I'm compiling nodejs from source as I'm typing this, and that thing is a beast.

I sometimes miss HDD header seeking noise. And the PS1's seeking noise does have a special place in my heart, and that chirping it does when you close the cover, and it starts spinning the disc. But in general, I'm very happy for the silent computing era.

I have a couple of laptops, but 2 years ago I put together a desktop as my main machine. Nowadays I use the laptops only when I need mobility, otherwise desktop always - such much more performant, silent and convenient.

I miss the days of steam engines. When the boiler sounded a particular way, I could tell what was going on. Too much coal? Too little? Not enough water? I could run that locomotive with my eyes closed!
Then those ungodly diesel monsters came along. And don't get me started on those electric locos! Glorified streetcars, I tell you what! Consarn it!
