Tl;dr I loath having to tread through the abysmal muck of the modern dating market, how our society assumes short-haired girls are gay, and being retarded into needing a short-haired gf for a prosperous relationship. Any advice?
I'm a pissy rising college freshman and I hate the world we live in. I'm going to a Christian college in the fall and I'm realizing that it's an uphill battle. If I want the short-haired tomboy of my dreams, odds are she's a fag. If I want a based trad Cath wife, odds are she won't want to look like a fag. I expect the vast majority of the girls there will be some milk-toast, immature, girly girl, and those who aren't probably will consider long hair feminine and short hair masculine, so even if I'm not just looking for the Catholics I still will run into problems with them not wanting to look like fags. I can't realistically ask out/for the numbers of random girls I see at the store etc. because me2 made that sexual harassment or something, and most girls with short hair are either fags and insane (I know its not all, but its not worth the nine accusations of SA just to get the one girl who will say yes). I just don't know what to do.
This wouldn't be a big deal, as I could easily just find a girl who isn't perfectly my type and live a happy life, but my entire life everyone around me and on the internet has called tomboys gay, ugly, gross, creepy, etc. As a result, I have this deep seeded insecurity about liking short hair which causes me some pretty harsh depression when a long-haired girl I'm dating does something nice for me. I've gone to a therapist for this and other problems, and all the help I ever got was "don't worry so much, and plenty of girls have/are willing to have short hair.' I can get the depressive fit to end after about five seconds, but it's hard to have a prosperous relationship when any amount of affection I receive from a girl with long hair causes me to think "you fucking pervert, kill yourself, no one loves you."
For more context, I have had a gf who was a tomboy before I started dating her (technically she was trans, but she stopped thinking that as soon as we started dating. ... it's a long story), but she had emotionally abusive parents, and after 2 years I couldn't put up with the abuse any more. For a short period of time, she had longish hair, and her showing me affection during that time was met with the above depressive thoughts. While I am a lot more secure in most things, intrusive thoughts can't be prevented (at least not in any way I know). So I won't necessarily be as depressed, but the thoughts are still very annoying.
I'm very used to suffering and depression, so I should be fine for three to six months of a casual relationship before the thoughts really start to bother me, but I'm not sure how many traditional/Catholic girls would be willing to cut their hair in such a way that my depression stops. Everything that I like enough to silence the thoughts (pixie cuts, 'edgier' bobs, undercuts/sideshaves/fauxhawks) are all considered edgy and rebellious, which turns away a lot of more traditionally minded girls.
And yes, the depressive thoughts are specifically caused by the long hair. I think that I'd appreciate the moment more if she had short hair, then think I'm perverted and evil for thinking that (because I was raised by the internet to think it was gay and that I shouldn't love those women). Short hair prevents this because I just appreciate how much I like the short hair, and how much she loves me, and all my gay retarded thoughts are gone.
I appreciate any advice, whether it be for dating, dealing with tomboys, or helping with mental illness, but I understand that there isn't much advice I can be given. I mostly just feel good complaining about this/getting it off my chest, and I hope it helps someone.
