Why do people say bless you when you sneeze? Why would you bless someone who is spreading their germs all over? And no don't say it's because your soul is escaping, that's dumb. I'll admit I use to say it before and kinda thought about it and realized it's kinda dumb, is it another way just to seem courteous or start small talk?

Yeah I understand back then cause people were stoopid than, but I'm sure people now a days can make enough sense that they aren't going to die and it's just a simple cold or the nose filtering out dust or whatever.

It used to be a superstition that is now a courtesy. It's the same as saying please or thank you. The words mean nothing, but the sentiment does.

Please means "I respect you as a person, and am adding an honorific to my request."This starts the social contract

Thank you means "I acknowledge something has been done for me and I am showing my appreciation" and indicates the end point of the social contract

Bless you means "I acknowledge you have made a loud noise due to a sneeze. It happens and I hope it doesn't again."

There's tons of other meaningless etiquette but it makes people feel comfortable and establishes respect among us. Don't be a nigger.

I'm pretty sure it's common because of the bubonic plague and sneezing was a symptom.
