There is an evolutionary benefit to homosexuality. Homosexuality generally dont produce children but, possess the ability to raise children into adulthood. Sometimes the parents of children die prematurely. Instead of dying off because they have no care giver, gay people can act as replacement parents without increasing the population size.

In short, gay people exist to be replacement parents to orphans without adding an increased burden to the population.
