The thing is atheists have no choice to believe that since there was a "before time" due to the fact of the begging of time. The Universe isn't eternal. It had a start. So even if nothing was before it, then nothing was there, just with no way of measuring how long nothing was before something became.

To understand nature better you must understand that concepts like time or creation are purely artificial and don't necessarily have real mirroring of actual reality.
