I think rich and powerful people for millennia have worshipped and tried to lobby demons for worldly power and riches. At least that’s what the demons say. These demons are sometimes called “the old gods” and polytheism is demons worship. What’s crazy is that these things have actual power over people and can make them feel things. because they're a real life rabbit hole. the more you learn (especially if you have a completionist mindset) the worse it gets. it's also an exceptionally effective predictive model for realpolitik and elite theory. there currently is no better model, and even the model itself has a fundamentally basic explanatory structure (i.e., tribalism, in-group preference, etc.)
