In retrospect it was a stroke of genius to cast the absence of racial and gender-based oppressions as a positive possession, a precious commodity the white guys were hoarding. As though it was something they had to give up or at least share. Complete misdirection and an implicit acceptance, canonisation even, of those oppressions. Don't complain about black people getting followed around the store - complain about white people NOT being followed. And it succeeded so well.
