The common liberal or leftist's goal with this is to introduce the disenfranchised to the obvious benefits of a better place to live and better system to live within. 1. Illegal immigrants actually have a net positive effect on the economy. They don't pay taxes but they don't get social security or medicare/medicaid either, so the net effect is that they end up putting more wealth into the economy than they take from it.

2. Illegal immigrants commit half as many crimes as native-born citizens, across all crime types, from jaywalking up to murder. If you're on a subway, and to your right is some farmer from Idaho who's family has been in America for 10 generations, and to your left is some jet-black Nicaraguan pendejo who jumped the border last week, you're statistically much safer with the latter than the former.
