If you want to be better at conversations then I suggest taking to people outside. It's only an issue if you make it one. Most of the time a simple hello will be enough to get things going. From there you can take the conversation to somewhere more personal. Try asking them where they got some of their clothes from. If you see someone a bit weird try talking to them.
