An air filter is an air filter the best one is the one the manufacturer recommends. K&N is just a fancy name you're paying for it is a consumable that will be thrown away and replaced. So when it comes to something that should be replaced on the regular you shouldn't waste your money on it. Unless you're lazy like me and just buy a cold air intake and wash the filter out every 3 years lol.

The main difference is you can clean it instead of buying a new one. That's all.

If it's a trailer queen dragster and you clean it before every track session, sure. But for a road car, go with a regular filter and get a little more performance from something else that doesn't sacrifice longevity of your motor for a marginal gain at only the highest rpms.

They seem overpriced to me. If they are washable, that's good though.

Buy this if you want more airflow, but more dirt getting through.

Or buy OEM to get good filtering, but more restriction.

I can see the problem in a dusty rural area. If the filter is actually causing premature engine wear, wouldn't they have multiple lawsuits and possibly forced out of business?

Don't get the ones you clean and oil. They're not worth it. Otherwise their filters are fine, just not really any better than stock in most cases.

Do I use extreme air filters? No. its the height of stupidity. The point of the air intake is to allow oxygen to enter the combustion chamber. NOTHING MORE! The point of the air filter is to keep particles capable of damaging the engine combustion chamber components out of the system. NOTHING MORE.

Cheap thin filters don't keep out the smaller damaging particles. Thick fine filters, cut down the airflow and screws over the combustion cycle by starving the airflow. As those expensive filters clog, they filter better. This has the side effect of cutting down the air flow more and more. Further screwing over the combustion cycle by starving it of oxygen. The point of the carbon is to charge more to stupid people. The chemicals absorbed from the air by the carbon has almost no affect on the combustion cycle.

Good mid range filters are the wisest choice.

I Sold car parts at a dealer for over 10 years. There is a difference between the "Made in Mexico" and K&N are HUGE. Besides the fact that you can buy a cleaning kit for the K&N, they are just better filters all around.

Fram are terrible filters, but people buy them cause they are cheap. Cheap is ok, but if you care about your vehicle but K&N and clean the filter. The basic filter you get at a lube shop is made in Mexico. The one the dealer sells you, made in Mexico. I don't have anything against Mexico, but 70$ for a filter that lasts 4 months is not good value. The K&N is about 80$ but the cleaning kit is $20 WAY better value for a way better filter.

As far as oil filters go... K&N unless your factory filter has a pressure valve. The Valve keeps the oil filter full so you don't have any dry starts. Seeing as the oil filter has to fill up first, then distribute oil to the engine. Oil filters that are inverse or sideways are the worst for dry starts.

Anyways do what you want, but filters make all the difference when it comes to keeping your engine running smooth..

Apparently this anon doesn't know what an air flow meter does.....
