Y'know once in a local newspaper there was a story featured about an old geezer, he wanted a very simple thing as his last hours went past him, a very simple wish. He just wanted to smoke a last cigarette and enjoy a glass of white wine. This man was told it would be within two hours he would pass due to some blood vessel or something in his stomach gone on the fritz. It was a touching story, a touching request, and most of all touching to read the hospital's respone to the request. They rolled him out near the window so he could have that last cigarette and glass of white, and that was that. No more, no less...

Based. I used to work in a hospice and we would often do similar last request things. Had a lady in for long term terminal care (not so usual as most people are in only for their last week or two). Her young son (12)had very little to do during school break and his grandparents who he was living with needed a break so I had him come and work with me in my department so he could wander off and see his mum any time. One of the happiest and saddest and most humbling things I have ever done.
