Lore is reconstructed to attend the funeral of his brother, somehow the story beat leads to him coming to terms with recently discovered Soong journals that reveal the scientists favortism and love for Lore but ultimately disappointment in the androids moral failings and accepts that Data is the better version. Becomes self reflective because of this, decides to take on Datas memories partially ovewriting his own and coming out of the other end an effective child of bothand calls himself Soong. The series faollows him trying to make a living in post earth utopia, having attempted starfleet but failing he has to explore normal life not as an adroid trying to be a human, but as a human teying to figure out life like the rest of us. Takes on an older visage to reflect his age and experience allowing for Brent Spiner to come back and finish the role.

Data couldn't accept the emotion chip because he was too perfect and to experience human emotion is to be psychologically vulnerable. An AI intelligent enough to understand humor would be too intelligent to find anything funny. This is where Lore comes in and between their memories and Lores functionally flawed emotion programming, the unit Soong is psychologcially hamstrung enough to feel somewhat human while still maintaining certain quirks and abilities that his cynical but well meaning nature uses to navigate the world and life.

Cool. Only issue is star trek is basically wank these days that forgot the primary point of Trek universe. It wasn't a utopia cause they had cool shit. It was because it finally made it into the zeitgeist that humans had learned to be their better selves and that while moral failings existed (and even shit that was problematic) the ideal was that the federation worked together to strive to be better always. Not just rest on this moral superiority laurels, but truly believe that a society could be better together.

Modern trek basically undid this. DS9 and Voyager started the snowball because they defaulted to human faggotry when they didn't have the post scarcity resources of the federation and took the easy selfish path as often as they strived to be better. Discovery fully killed the altruistic universe and pissed on the ashes. Even Picard is inundated with stupid "shut up boomer" ideals of a dude who dedicated his life to bettering the universe and making that ideal analogous with colonialism.

Now it's just member berries and self important moralising that implies trying to be better selves is naive and can only be achieved personally, not as a whole society and keeps retconning out each step forward just to drive "action and suspense"

Basically the whole universe is dead and is corpse is powered by nostalgia and lazy writing about whatever political bug is up the writers ass.

It's a shame. So i might watch this, but i don't care anymore.

Sounds like the tone it's going for, post utopian, cynical, some humor. If it were written well it could stand as a great show, I have faith that Spiner would be able to make a memorable character and carry the story.

>post utopia
So humanity just unlearned all the shit they did to make it a fully realised utopia?

It basically comes off as more disillusionment propaganda aka "we're not allowed to have nice things" cause then the plebs might notice the current elite are making their lives garbage for some extra zeros in the account. Simply by begging the question "why the fuck are we moving in the opposite direction to trek? After everything we've been through?"

Cause it's not that humanity can't learn the lessons of the past, it's that we're intentionally being kept ignorant of them so the unscrupulous can keep profiting off the methods they refined the last time they caused strife.

Look at modern "progressivism" compared to classic liberalism. They're claiming to be an evolution of classic liberalism and yet doing the exact things that classic liberalism fought against in reaction to how bad they were. Because the "progressives" have forgotten how bad those things were. Intersectionalism is just becoming segregation, equality as an end goal has been usurped by "equity" which has just become the new inroad for oppression with the end result being discarded. In fact oppression itself is now forgivable based on relative "power structure" perceptions.

Trek showed us why these things were bad, how they could be taken to their inevitable conclusions. But they can't show that or people might question the dogma.

So they fucked trek. To make sure we never believe utopia is possible.
