I think they get a lot of unfair blame for how the world turned out. The gutting of the country's manufacturing and middle class was well underway as they were entering the workforce. Nixon opened us to Chinese trade and Reagan opened the floodgates from Mexico with the 1986 amnesty, and they were both the "greatest" generation. They can be a little annoying when they don't understand how inflation works or how the world of 1980 where you can just send out a resume and get a job offer no longer exists

Anyway, I think that like every elderly generation to come before them were also chastised by the up and coming generations. I think that their bad reputation is uniquely exacerbated and that unlike the generations that came before them that they deserve the hat they're getting. They are hoarding all the wealth. They bought up all the prime real estate for post war prices and never sold. Some of them acquired multiple homes, it wasn't that different that owning a few cars back then. These people went into office and made laws for the sake raising their home's values. They suck.
