Only down side might be for the population as a whole if there was another gene that that led to a predisposition for Downs. Then this editing would actually spread more Downs because it makes that gene more prevalent because Downs are now prevalent as breeders. you can search it up but boiled down theyre removing parts of the 3rd chromosome, the cells recognise it as a tumor, destroy it and then goes on continuing healthily.

it probably cant be stopped from happening again, i doubt the cells build an immunity but it does massively decrease the chances of it. 1 in 700 of it happening, you get it removed and then its a 1 in 490000 total for it to happen again. making it from more than 1 in 1000 to 1 in half a million is good enough.

its all lab at the moment and is a 30% chance of the cells continuing which isnt bad. for a lot of parents itll basically be 30% chance you save your child and 70% that its aborted rather than just getting an abortion like they do in iceland.
